Soak All Your Cares Away with Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST)

Float Therapy - The Ultimate Self-Care

I absolutely love a bath! I make it into a whole experience! I try weekly to draw a warm bath, light a candle, have a nice glass of wine, add a face mask and a Netflix show or podcast and I emerge a brand-new person!

I recently took my bath experience to another level when I tried my first float spa pod!

I’m not going to lie; I was a little nervous at first. My only experience was from watching The Big Bang Theory and their experience with a sensory deprivation pod. They described it as dark, quiet, and claustrophobic. This was NOTHING like that!

Imagine walking into a spa-like setting: I was greeted and because it was my first time, I filled out paperwork, then I sank into some comfy chairs while I watched a quick video that tells you exactly what to do and what the experience will be like.

I was then escorted to my personal pod room. I was provided earplugs, towels, and jelly for any little cuts or scratches. The room was huge and not at all scary and the pod was LARGE! It didn’t look like the tiny tanning bed size pods I had seen on TV; it was like a mini pool with light mood lighting. The first 15 minutes I had music and the last 5 minutes of my float I had music as well. Next time I’ll ask for music the whole time as I enjoyed it so much. The craziest thing was that I was literally floating!!! Like zero-gravity floating! It was so cool! It’s an amazing feeling that I can’t even explain as anything other than magical!

Your whole body becomes weightless as you relax into your pod. This provides 100% pain relief because your spine elongates and straightens. The body undergoes the same regenerative process similar to when you sleep. The lactic acid drains from your muscles, reducing soreness and recovery time.

The mental benefit is that by taking an hour of self-care alone time you immediately feel a decrease in the production of cortisol aka stress hormones, which leaves you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

When my incredible hour of relaxation was over, I exited my pod and enjoyed a nice hot shower. I didn’t have to bring anything but my hairbrush! I was provided a shower, towels, shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel - it couldn’t have been easier.

Once I was cleaned up and ready to leave the cocoon of my float room, I enjoyed lavender oxygen therapy and a delicious cup of tea. I left my float experience feeling like a million bucks!

So outside of a little time to yourself and an incredibly relaxing floating experience…

What Else Can You Experience From Float Therapy?

  • Exfoliation: the salt acts as an exfoliate for hair, skin, and nails

  • Reduced joint pain

  • Eased stress

  • A naturally relax the body

  • Elimination of toxins and heavy metals

  • Detoxification of the body

  • Increased blood flow/circulation

  • Reduced Cortisol levels

  • Increased healing abilities

  • Reduced pain

  • Increased immune system function

  • Reduced Stress

  • Increased creativity

  • Increased reaction time and sensory activity

  • Help with sleep

  • Feelings of Euphoria

Plus, when your body reaches a certain amount of relaxation, it is able to reduce muscle tension, decrease blood pressure, decrease stress hormones, and increase endorphins! I mean, yes, please!

You might be wondering how all this works. The pod is full of 180 gallons of room temperature water and 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt to help lift your body and make it float! Pretty cool, right? Plus, the heavy levels of magnesium sulfate when absorbed into the body through the pores of the skin, increases the liver’s ability to rid the body of toxins! Sounds pretty awesome to me!

I can’t recommend float therapy more. I’m so glad that I finally tried it and have experienced the amazing benefits for myself and I’m so excited to add it to my self-care routine. I suggest giving it a try for yourself!

I was fortunate to be gifted my first float from my friends at True Rest Float Spa in Palm Beach Gardens Florida. I would definitely encourage you to go visit them if you are local!
