Summer is Coming!

It’s officially Memorial Day, which to me is the start of Summer, my favorite season of the year! While this year looks a little different with everything going on, hopefully, we’ll still be able to get out and enjoy some fun in the sun, and that means swimming in the pool and oceans. Maybe (fingers crossed) some of us might even get a vacation in before the new school year starts (again fingers crossed)!

Here are some tips for keeping your extensions looking gorgeous all summer long!

Tip #1: If you are lucky enough to get away on a vacation get a professional blowout the day of or before you leave on your trip. You’ll look fabulous when you arrive and give yourself a day or two to not have to wash and blow-dry your hair in the hotel room!

Tip #2: Coat your hair in conditioner before going into the pool or the ocean, especially in chlorinated water. This provides a protective barrier between your hair and the water and chemicals in the water, keeping them from penetrating and absorbing into your hair. Whether you have extensions or not, this is something everyone can benefit from! 😊

Tip #3: When participating in water sports, coat hair in conditioner and braid it. This will keep your hair from tangling and knotting. It will look pretty cute too! This will prevent your hair from getting caught especially in goggles and snorkel masks, and from pulling on your connection points.

Bonus: If you also wear eyelash extensions, the goggles and masks keep your lashes dry and safe while swimming underwater.

Tip #4: Wear a hat! This will protect your hair from the sun, wind, and water. This is a great solution for keeping your hair out of the way on a day you may want to skip washing. Plus, it protects your hair color from fading in the harsh blazing sun.

Tip #5: Keep your hair extensions hydrated! Use a weekly conditioning treatment, use oils and serums, and avoid heat styling whenever possible. The weather is heating up, so remember to keep your hair hydrated and frizz-free!

Having hair extensions and being an HMF doesn’t mean you can’t have fun in the sun this summer! I took my 7-month-old extensions on an incredible 7 day trip to Grand Cayman where I swam and washed my hair every day, and with these tips, they came back just as beautiful as when I left.

Happy start to summer! Now go out there and have some fun, but remember to use your SPF, because no one likes a sunburn!

Peace, Love, and Fun in the Sun!
